A wireless network is a very great convenience for the average home user. But many are unaware of its dangers and pitfalls. This small guide will help you secure your network:
  • By default most wireless routers come 'open' make sure to set a high 128bit or higher encrypted password. NEVER have your router running on 'open' it is a huge security risk to wardriving incidents
  • For maximum security only allow trusted MAC addresses (hardware addresses for wireless cards) to access your wireless router. Studies show that it takes 4 minutes to hack a 128bit encryption under the right conditions by a skilled hacker/script kiddie.
  • Even with encryption on it is always possible to have your signal hacked. Turn off your network when not in use if you do not allow access only by MAC address.
